June opening for Shanghai Tower platform
THE Shanghai Tower will open its sightseeing platform on the 119th floor to the public in a soft opening in June, an official said yesterday.
Visitors will be able to take three high-speed elevators to reach the 560-meter-high platform within a minute in the 632-meter, 137-floor skyscraper — the world’s second tallest.
The platform will feature souvenir stores, a post office and exhibition areas, said officials.
They said the ticket price has yet to be decided.
Visitors will be able to reach the 126th floor, the highest available for access. The levels above contain a 1,000-ton domestically made damping system, said to be the world’s most advanced, to keep the skyscraper stable in strong winds.
Costing 15 billion yuan (US$2.5 billion), the Shanghai Tower in the Lujiazui financial hub of the Pudong New Area is the world’s second tallest building, after the 829.8m Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It is set to open this year.
Tickets for the sightseeing platform in the nearby Jin Mao Tower are 120 yuan (US$19.3) and 180 yuan for the Shanghai World Financial Center.
