Kidnapped victim freed, back home
THE Shanghai woman who was abducted by a group of armed men a months ago while on holiday at a Malaysian resort has returned home after being rescued late last week.
Gao Huayun flew into Pudong International Airport on a China Eastern Airlines flight on Monday, a source with the Shanghai Exit-Entry Inspection and Quarantine Bureau said yesterday.
Gao and a Filipino worker at the Singamata Reef Resort in Sabah, Malaysia, were kidnapped on April 2.
According to the Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Gao was freed and reached the Malaysian capital on Friday.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said no ransom was paid to secure the victims' release. The success was instead achieved due to cooperation between the security forces of Malaysia and the Philippines.
