Kidnapper jailed for plan to get loan back

A COMPANY boss who kidnapped the daughter and son-in-law of a man who owed him money and demanded a 1 million yuan (US$163,249) ransom was jailed yesterday.

Du Hong was sentenced to six and a half years in prison and given a 10,000 yuan fine, Zhabei District People’s Court said.

Du, owner of a science and technology company in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, lent 260,000 yuan to Dai Jizhong last year.

When Dai showed no sign of repaying the cash, Du decided to kidnap his family.

Du and accomplices tailed Dai’s daughter, Lu Xia, and son-in-law, Wang Jianjun, from their home in Minhang District on December 9 and threatened the couple with a knife. Du then drove them in their own BMW to Honghu City in Hubei Province.

Du received  600,000 yuan from Dai’s ex-wife, while Wang was forced to write a receipt for a 400,000-yuan loan and leave the BMW.

The hostages were freed when Du was paid. He was caught on December 26.
