Killer receives death penalty
A MAN who killed a woman in a frenzied stabbing attack and stole money and valuables from her house by pretending to be a potential home buyer was sentenced to death yesterday.
Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court also ruled that Jiang Fangchang must surrender all his personal property and give more than 670,000 yuan (US$98,097) in compensation to the family of the victim, surnamed Li. Jiang, 22, committed the crime on April 15 and was caught a day later.
Roads flooded
Roads were flooded after an old water-pipe burst about 5am yesterday in Luwan District's Zhongshan Road S1. Police set up a cordon to control traffic. Workers finished repairs by noon.
Drivers caught
CITY traffic police have seized a total of 1,792 drivers over the legal alcohol limit in a week since a nationwide crackdown began on August 15. More than 30,000 have been caught driving under the influence this year.
