Kitchen waste oil collection soars
WASTE oil collected from local restaurants has reached more than 68 tons a day, from around only 10 tons a year ago, local food safety watchdogs said yesterday. This comes as Shanghai tightens up the government-monitored collection of kitchen leftovers to block sources and channels for swill oil - illegally recovered and recycled oil.
And given the current shortage of processing capacity, the city is to build four large kitchen oil processing mills citywide, officials said.
