Landlord jailed for raping tenant

A landlord who raped his tenant was sentenced to four and a half years in prison by the Pudong District People's Court yesterday.
Wang Lian, aged 36, came to Shanghai from Chongqing in 2006. He rented a three-bedroom apartment on Rongcheng Road and sublet the bedrooms. In June, Zhang Jing, the victim, saw his "for rent" ad online, contacted Wang and rented a bedroom. After she moved in, Wang began to harass her with messages and gifts but she turned down his advances. On June 24, while other tenants were out, Wang sneaked into Zhang's room and raped her. Wang was caught that night after Zhang called the police. He pleaded guilty in court yesterday.
