Large city microblog provides lots of data
THE city government's Information Office opened its microblog yesterday to offer interactive communication between the government and the public via several social networking websites.
The microblog, Shanghaicity, offers real-time updates on data such as traffic, weather and air quality, city life and a multimedia city guide as well as quick responses to social concerns on Weibo.com, t.qq.com, t.eastday.com and t.xinmin.cn. Online discussions, events and surveys will also be held regularly.
Launched in the morning, the account at Weibo.com earned more than 106,000 followers by 8pm yesterday.
To date, nearly 600 Shanghai government offices and institutions have started their verified official microblogs.
