Late-night car chase turns costly for 2 drivers
TWO men were ordered to pay more than 30,000 yuan (US$4,392) in damages to a factory because they crashed into its wall during a late-night car chase, Jiading District People's Court ruled yesterday.
About 3am on May 6, 2008, a BMW driven by Lu Lin hit a Lincoln driven by Wang Shuo in the Nanxiang area of Jiading District. The two argued over who was responsible.
Wang asked Lu for compensation, but Lu disagreed and sped away in his car. Wang gave chase and both ignored red lights as they raced along Huyi Road, the court heard.
The road ended as the two cars approached a factory. By the time Lu realized this it was too late to brake. He crashed his BMW into the wall of the factory and destroyed a sign board and flagpole along with the wall. Wang smashed into a pile of electric poles.
The court ruled both were responsible. It ordered Lu to cover 60 percent of the damage while Wang was responsible for the remainder.
