Licensed street performer trial extended
STREET performers are to have trial licenses extended and are being given a new spot in Jing’an Park, a senior official said yesterday.
This will lead to more street entertainers being licensed by the city.
The licensed street performers trial, which began last October, is being extended for another three months, Yang Ruixian, director of marketing Shanghai Culture, Radio Broadcasting, Film and Television Administration, told lawmakers yesterday.
Currently, eight licensed performers — including clowns, magicians and singers — entertain the public at the Jing An Kerry Centre.
Yang said the schedule will be publicized soon.
She said there would be more licensed entertainers.
“Many local performers applied to be licensed by the city and have been recorded as candidates for the further rounds of licenses,” Yang said.
More licenses, covering more forms of entertainment, will be issued, she said.
Licenses were issued following complaints about performers causing disturbances.
