Man accused of shooting out residential windows faces possession charge
PROSECUTORS in Shanghai's Baoshan District approved the arrest of a man they accuse of shooting glass windows in passageways in a residential building, charging him with illegal possession of guns, authorities said.
As a military enthusiast and a gun lover, the man surnamed Gao bought two guns capable of firing plastic bullets from an online shop with 900 yuan last August, according to prosecutors.
The black guns were mostly made of plastic material but their barrels were iron.
The seller also gave Gao three boxes of round plastic bullets for free, which he used to test the lethality of the gun by shooting at foamed plastics, prosecutors said.
Unsatisfied with that, Gao began to frequently shoot the glass windows of passageways in a residential building near where he lived in late evenings, they said.
Though no people wee hurt, scared residents in the building reported to local police on April 2, saying the windows had been attacked by mysterious bullets, and police caught Gao with his weapons at his home.
Tests found that the two guns, powered by compressed gas, could cause injuries and deaths.
