Man accused of using date rape drug

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drugging and raping a former colleague he was in love with, prosecutors in Songjiang District said yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Liu, 27, who had long been chasing the 20-year-old woman, bought a date rape drug online and took it to the karaoke venue where the woman worked late on October 21.
Liu went there with friends and the woman. While the others were busy chatting and singing, Liu allegedly slipped the drug into her drink.
When the drinking party ended about 3am, Liu carried the unconscious woman to a nearby hotel and raped her. When she awoke, Liu told her what he had done.
The woman called police, who found a drug in Liu’s pocket that tests showed contained a sedative, prosecutors said.
