Man arrested for killing mistress after she tried to end affair
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of killing his mistress in an act of revenge after she tried to end their affair, the Songjiang District Procuratorate said.
The Shanghai native, a married man surnamed Zhang, had a relationship with a woman surnamed Li, who was also married and had a son, prosecutors said.
They did not say how they met, but said the affair ran for about three years. Li’s husband, surnamed Jiang, was a long-distance bus driver and was frequently away from home.
Earlier this year, Li asked Zhang to leave his wife so that they could get married. Zhang refused to get divorced, but agreed to move out of the family home.
Li, meanwhile, asked Jiang for a divorce, but he refused, prosecutors said.
In May, Li told Jiang about the affair and asked for forgiveness. She then called Zhang to tell him she wanted to end their relationship.
According to the prosecutors, the news angered Zhang and he drove his car to Li’s home. When he spotted Li and Jiang walking together he tried to run them down, they said.
As Jiang tried pushed his wife to safety, he was hit by the car and suffered a broken leg. Zhang is then alleged to have leapt from the car and attacked Li with a knife.
Li died from multiple stab wounds in the hospital.
