Man detained on suspicion of raping ex-lover
A MAN has been detained on suspicion of trying to rape his ex-girlfriend after she told him she wanted to break up, Jinshan District police said yesterday.
The 36-year-old suspect was not named, but police said he lives in the town of Langxia in Jinshan and works as a security guard.
The alleged attack took place on February 28 at the woman’s apartment. She claimed she invited her former boyfriend to her home to discuss her reasons for the split, police said.
But once inside the property, the man pocketed several items of jewelry and tried to rape her, she said.
The woman tried to fend off her attacker by slapping and scratching him, but when he persisted, she took a fruit knife and threatened to kill herself, police said.
When the man snatched the knife from her, the woman ran to the bathroom, locked herself inside and called her friends for help.
The man left the apartment and the woman went to the police station.
After being detained, the suspect claimed he went to the woman’s apartment to take back several gifts he had bought her and while there asked her for sex, police said.
