Man fined for airing fake stories
A MAN has been fined 200 yuan (US$31) for spreading rumors about a fictional assault on a person at an ATM in Pujiang Town, Minhang District.
The suspect, surnamed Guo, posted a picture of a seriously wounded man on Weibo on Wednesday and said it was a “robbery that just happened,” Minhang police said.
He said the man had been fatally stabbed while withdrawing money.
Guo also warned people “to be careful about robberies which tend to happen at the end of a year,” police said, adding that they had not received any reports of such an incident.
On Friday, they found Guo and spoke to him about the matter. He admitted to fabricating the story and was fined, they said.
