Man gets prison for maiming his wife
A MAN who cut off his wife’s hand with a meat cleaver after accusing her of cheating on him, has been sentenced to four years in prison, the Pudong New Area People’s Court said yesterday.
Chen Anjun, 39, attacked Qing Xiaoli, 29, on August 30 last year at their family home in the Pudong New Area, prosecutors said.
The defendant said in court that he attacked Qing after finding out she had been having an affair and planned to divorce him.
He said that at the time of the incident he believed that if he maimed his wife she would have to stay with him as “no one else would want her.”
After pinning Qing to the bed, he hacked off her left hand and then cut it into pieces so it could not be reattached, the court heard.
Following the assault, Chen called an ambulance and Qing was taken to hospital. Doctors, however, were unable to save her hand and she now uses a prosthetic.
Chen was found guilty of intentional injury.
