A MAN accused of cheating women he met via a dating website out of more than 300,000 yuan (US$48,000) has been detained, Putuo District police said yesterday.

The suspect, surnamed Zhu, is alleged to have duped four women, three of whom also claim that he made them pregnant, police said.

Zhu is alleged to have masqueraded as an airline pilot and a former air force officer in order to woo the women he met through matchmaking site jiayuan.com.

One of his alleged victims claimed she lent him 250,000 yuan to set up a small business.

The suspect, who is married with a child, was detained on Wednesday at his home in Songjiang District, police said.
