Man held for cutting electrical cables leading to power failure

LOCAL police have detained a man for damaging electric cables and causing power failure in nearly 200 households.

On June 24 morning, Hongkou District police received a call about a large-scale power failure that covered the residential complex on Shuidian Road and Wan’an Road, and the nearby construction site at Jiangwan High School, Shanghai Morning Post reported yesterday.

Police caught the suspect surnamed Luo after going through the surveillance footages. They seized the cables from him and the pliers used to cut them.

Police said Luo caused damages to nearly 200 meters of electric cables, causing economic losses worth around 5,800 yuan. It led to power failure in 193 households and Jiangwan High School.

Power was restored soon after.

Luo has been detained but two other suspects are still at large.
