Man held for hitting officer with an iron bar
A MAN reportedly with mental health problems has been detained for hitting a traffic police with an iron bar in the Pudong New Area yesterday morning.
The officer was rushed to hospital, and doctors said his injuries were not serious.
A video taken by a passerby showed the traffic officer patrolling on a motorcycle when he was attacked. The attacker, who was dressed in grey outfits, ran across the busy road and struck the officer shortly before 9am.
Another witness said the man was seen talking to himself before attacking the cop. “He behaved abnormally and may have mental problems,” he added.
“The man was caught by other policemen who reached the spot,” he said.
Pudong police said the man attacked the cop without any motive and would need mental health evaluation.
