Man held over fatal stabbing of father
A MAN accused of stabbing his father to death at their home in December has been arrested, prosecutors said yesterday.
The unmarried and unemployed 44-year-old, surnamed Shi, lived with his parents in a tiny apartment on Ningbo Road, the Huangpu District People’s Procuratorate said.
On the evening of December 3, the father and son — who seldom spoke to one another — began quarreling over a trivial issue. The situation rapidly escalated, however, when Shi grabbed a knife and his father picked up a saw and the pair began to fight.
In the ensuing altercation, Shi stabbed his father several times in the face and neck, prosecutors said.
After hearing screams from Shi’s mother, neighbors called the emergency services. Police and an ambulance team arrived, and a doctor pronounced the father dead at the scene.
Shi was taken into custody and confessed to the crime, police said.
Prosecutors said he had served prison time in the past for intentional injury.
