Man killed in fire

ONE person was killed and three were injured yesterday when a fire at a hardware shop in the Pudong New Area spread to other buildings.
The owner of a neighboring foot massage shop surnamed Wang said he spotted the fire and shouted to the owner of the hardware store, surnamed Geng, to warn him.
But the 39-year-old from Anhui Province failed to escape and perished in the blaze. Geng’s wife and two children escaped with only slight injuries after climbing out of a window.
Wang also woke the workers at his shop and at two stores nearby. The two-story hardware shop was gutted by the blaze, which was eventually contained by fire crews. Its cause is unknown.
