Man kills wife before holiday
A MAN stabbed his wife to death in a hotel room hours before they were due to take a flight home for the Spring Festival, prosecutors said.
Jin Xiaofeng was arrested over the weekend on the charge of murder, Minhang District prosecutors said.
Jin, 26, told prosecutors he killed his wife, Shen Qin, in the heat of the moment as they argued about affairs they had been having.
"I still loved her. If she hadn't irritated me, I wouldn't have killed her," Jin said.
Jin married Shen four years ago in Linyi County, Shanxi Province. Afterwards they came to Shanghai to work. He was employed at a hotpot restaurant, becoming a manager, while Shen was a beauty salon manager.
However, Jin began an affair with a colleague, which his wife soon learned about. Shen forced Jin to return with her to their hometown and complained to their parents.
Following pressure from the parents, Jin knelt before his wife to ask for forgiveness. The couple returned to Shanghai after their reconciliation.
But Shen couldn't forget the affair and often poured out her problems to a director, surnamed Liu, at the beauty salon where she worked.
"When she said it was impossible for her to continue in her marriage as though nothing had happened and that they would divorce sooner or later, we started going out and became lovers," Liu said in his testimony to police.
Jin discovered Shen's affair, but the couple still decided to return to Shanxi for the Spring Festival.
They were due to fly out early on January 21, and spent the night before in a Jinjiang Star Inn near the Hongqiao Airport.
Awaking early in the inn, they began arguing about their affairs, prosecutors said.
When Jin went to light a cigarette, Shen snatched it from him, leading Jin to hit his wife on the head with a cigarette box and pin her to the bed.
Jin then produced a knife and threatened to kill his wife. Shen said: "Come on then, if you're brave enough," according to prosecutors.
Jin stabbed his wife several times in the neck, said prosecutors.
He didn't call police until she was dead.
