Man leaves daughter, 2, at police station

A MAN abandoned his two-year-old daughter at a downtown police station yesterday morning, following an argument with his wife.

Police traced the father while officers and community staff looked after the child.

He returned about 4pm to collect his daughter, expressing “regret about what he had done,” said police.

The incident began at 9:30am at a police station in Huangpu District near Huaihai Road.

A photograph posted online by an officer named Cao Hua showed a child in a red T-shirt with no one taking care of her.

Cao said police began an immediate investigation and found that the father had left his daughter there following a family dispute after which the girl’s mother had left home.

Police said the dispute concerned relocation issues, as their home is to be demolished.

The man said he left his daughter at the police station “so that he could find his wife.”

The child was cared for by staff at the station until her father returned about 4pm.
