Man nabbed for using fake car plate
A driver faces 15 days of detention for using another driver’s plate, city police said yesterday.
Police said a Lamborghini owner in Wuxi City of neighboring Jiangsu Province complained to the police there that he received traffic violation notices from Shanghai police although he had never driven his car to Shanghai.
Shanghai police said they managed to locate the second driver, surnamed Li, via technical means and stopped him on Monday evening near the crossroads of Chuanchang Road and Zhongshan Road (S-2).
Li allegedly told police that he bought this car from a second-hand car dealership in Beijing about two months ago for 1.4 million yuan (US$204,000) via a merchant he became acquainted with through social networks.
Police said they will investigate whether Li’s car was smuggled.
He also faces 5,000 yuan fine and 12 demerits in his driving license for the offense, which will force him to sit through a written test on traffic laws to recover his license.
