Man on trial for attack 13 years ago
A MAN alleged to have helped a friend tie up and rob a print company boss and his wife 13 years ago, after the businessman refused to print advertisements due to a price dispute, went on trial yesterday.
Fan Bingsheng, 39, an Anhui-Province native, was held by police last November, after 13 years on the run, Xuhui District People's Court heard.
Prosecutors said Fan and two accomplices, Bing Bao and Chang Zi, armed themselves with a homemade revolver and two knives and broke into Zhou Jiayuan's home on Laohumin Road on January 14, 1999.
Fan claimed in court he had just gone to get printing paper.
The court heard Bing asked Zhou to print advertisements, but he refused due to the price. Seeking revenge, the trio went to Zhou's home, tied him and his wife and fled with 1,200 yuan (US$190) and a cellphone.
Bing was jailed for 11 years for robbery and firearms offences. Chang is still at large.
No verdict was announced.
