Man tries to set Qipu Road market fire
A MAN was detained after he attempted to set fire yesterday to a clothing market on Qipu Road in Hongkou District, police said.
The man ignited three of four gasoline bombs he had placed in different areas of the wholesale market, commonly known as “Cheap Road,” before he was caught by security guards.
No one was injured in the incident.
A witness said the guards were running after the man and putting out the fires with a fire extinguisher.
“He filled brown beer bottles with gasoline to make the bombs,” a guard said.
A Hongkou fire brigade official said it was a close call and the fires didn’t spread because the corridors where the bombs were placed were clean.
