Man wrecks bank after credit snub

A MAN who ran amok causing 30,000 yuan (US$4,800) worth of damage in a bank after being refused a credit card has been questioned by police.
The incident happened about noon yesterday after the man was denied the credit line at a branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China on Zhaojiabang Road in Xuhui District.
A bank clerk who declined to give her name told Shanghai Daily that the man’s application was rejected because he was unable to supply the necessary documents.
“Perhaps he felt he was being discriminated against and wanted to let off some steam,” she said.
“First he smashed a plant pot, then he picked up a garbage can and began hitting things with it.”
The bank’s security guards immediately lowered the roller-shutter door, while other staff helped to evacuate the customers, the clerk said.
“Someone called police and officers arrived and restrained the man,” she said.
Despite the fracas, the bank was back in business just 10 minutes after the man was taken away by police.
The disgruntled customer was a migrant worker, she said.
“Maybe he suffers from a mental problem,” she said.
