Shanghai marathon brought forward

THIS year’s Shanghai International Marathon will be held on November 2, a month earlier than usual, in a bid to reduce the risk of exposing runners to smog, the Chinese Athletics Association said.

The event is traditionally held on the first Sunday of December, but the air condition at that time is very likely to be polluted, the organizer said. Last year, many runners were seen wearing face masks due to the high levels of pollution on race day. The warmer weather in November will also help the runners to perform better, the organizer said.
