Marathon registration starts

REGISTRATION has started for the 2017 Shanghai Chongming International Marathon, which will be held on Chongming Island on April 30.
The event — one of the city’s two major running events in the spring — follows the 2017 Shanghai International Half Marathon on April 23.
Jointly organized by the Chinese Athletic Association, Shanghai Sports Bureau and Chongming District, the Chongming event will feature a total of 8,000 participants. Two thousand will take part in the 42-kilometer full marathon, 2,000 in the 21km half marathon, and 4,000 in the 5km health run.
Runners can log on to http://shcmmarathon.wisdomsports.com.cn for registration before April 14.
The entrance fees for the full marathon are 100 yuan (US$14.50), 80 yuan for the half marathon, and 50 yuan for the health run. All races will start from Xianda College of Economics and Humanities, Shanghai International Studies University at 8am.
Meanwhile, registered runners for the Shanghai International Half Marathon who cannot take part in the race for personal reasons are reminded to submit a withdrawal application to the organizers before 5pm tomorrow. Their registration fees will be refunded and the organizers will immediately hold a second draw to distribute the quotas later tomorrow.
This marks the first time a refund policy has been introduced to Shanghai’s major running event, and it is expected the move will curb regulation violations such as giving away or selling places in the race.
