Mentally ill man detained for deliberately scalding baby
A mentally ill man has been detained by police for pouring boiling water on to a 16-month-old infant.
The child suffered third-degree burns to 35 percent of his body and is being treated at the Armed Police Corps Hospital in Changning District.
The suspect, Lin, attacked the child following a dispute over rent with the boy’s parents, to whom he had leased an apartment, STV news reported yesterday.
“He (Lin) locked me out of the apartment,” the child’s mother said.
“But I saw him carry a kettle to my son’s room. Then I heard screaming.”
A doctor surnamed Li said the child’s condition is stable, but could worsen and requires surgery.
A property management worker at the building said Lin has mental issues.
