Metro Line 11 set to launch second phase tomorrow
The second phase of Metro Line 11 from Jiangsu Road Station in downtown Shanghai to Luoshan Road in Pudong will be flagged off tomorrow.
With that, Line 11 will surpass Line 2 as the longest Metro line in the city.
The 65-kilometer line connects northern Jiading District to Pudong and it will be in service from 5:30am to 23:51pm.
The key section between Jiading Xincheng and Sanlin stations will have a train running every five minutes during rush hours, while on the other sections of the route the interval will be 10 minutes.
Line 11’s Oriental Sports Center Station is also the junction for Line 6 and Line 8. Line 11 and 6 share four parallel tracks and has two platforms on the same floor.
Passengers transferring from Line 6 to Line 11 for Jiading will just have to move across the station to catch the train, but those heading to Luoshan Road will have to follow the directions to the other platform for the journey.
Line 11 splits into two directions from Jiading Xincheng Station — one to North Jiading and the other to Anting. Passengers boarding from North Jiading can reach Luoshan Road directly, but Anting passengers have to get off at Sanlin Road Station and catch a train to Luoshan Road.
Commuters heading to Anting have to get off at or before Jiading Xincheng Station and transfer to another train.
Line 11 also has a stop at Shanghai Swimming Center, making it easier to reach Shanghai Stadium. Shanghai Stadium can now be reached by lines 1, 3, 4 and 11.
Shanghai’s Metro network now stretches 462 kilometers with 300 stations. Line 11 will be the sixth line that rides under the Huangpu River.
Meanwhile, the Aerospace Museum Station on Line 8 has been renamed Shendu Highway Station.
