Metro Line 9 delayed after passenger has evident epileptic seizure

THE operation of Metro Line 9 was affected for one hour after a passenger pulled down the emergency brake on Tuesday evening.

A train heading toward Songjiang South Railway Station was running between Yishan Road and Guilin Road stations at 6:30pm when a male passenger showed apparent symptoms of an epileptic seizure. Another commuter pulled down the emergency brake.

Not being familiar with epilepsy symptoms, surrounding commuters started to move into other carriages, causing confusion to other passengers in the train. Nobody was injured in the chaos.

The driver restarted the train and reached Guilin Road Station, where all passengers were ordered off. The epilepsy victim gradually back to consciousness and was taken off the train by Metro staff.

The operation of Line 9 was affected for about an hour.

Metro police said pulling down the emergency brake when a train is between stations only delays rescue in such situations.
