Metro gets into the shared bike business

PASSENGERS in Shanghai will soon be able to use shared bikes via the app Metro Daduhui.
The Metro operator said the service is set to debut in early 2018.
Shared bikes have doubled the radiation radius of Metro stations from 500 to 1,000 meters, according to a report released by DT times, a media data organization.
“The convergence of shared bikes and the Metro system will provide more convenience to the public”, said Jin Tao, director of the Metro’s information management center.
“The goal is to enable the passengers to scan the QR code in Metro Daduhui to ride bikes. Details are being discussed now with ofo and Mobike,” said Jin.
An employee involved with the app told Shanghai Daily that the plan is to implant "a new interface of shared bikes" into the app, “from topping up the money to unlocking and riding the bike, all procedures can be done within Metro Daduhui.”
Ofo confirmed it is discussing details with the Metro, but said the plan hasn't been finalized, especially with regard to how deposits are handled.
The app function represents another step of the Metro operator’s effort to make its system more convenient. On November 1 a new payment method was brought in that enables passengers to pass through the turnstile in maglev stations by using their mobile phones.
Jin said there are 2,985 turnstiles will be refitted to allow this to happen across the Metro network. By the end of the year, passengers traveling throughout the network will be able to use this new paying method at every station, according to Jin.
