Metro network to grow by 100km this year

THE construction of more than 100 kilometers of new Metro lines will get under way this year, authorities said yesterday.
The projects include extensions to Lines 10 and 11, and the new Line 17, the Shanghai Construction Commission said.
More than 30km of new lines will be completed in the year, including 10km that will go into operation, said Tang Zhiping, a director of the commission.
Construction of the Disney Special Line, an extension of Line 11 that will run from Luoshan Road to the theme park, is already under way and set for completion in October.
The line will be mostly over ground, with just the final 1.5km underground, Tang said.
The authority also said it has applied to the government for permission to start the construction of Lines 15 and 18.
