Metro operator drops subway tunnel plan
A plan to build a pedestrian tunnel linking Metro Lines 2, 12 and 13 at Nanjing Road W. station has been scrapped, the city’s subway operator said this week.
The area slated for the project features a number of protected buildings and there were problems regarding the relocation of residents, so the idea had to be shelved, Shanghai Shentong Group said.
The tunnel was intended to handle the expected increase in traffic at the station, which will become a three-line interchange when new sections of Lines 12 and 13 open later this year. But now, passengers will have to leave the station if they want to transfer between lines.
