Metro sends signal to 4G phone users
THERE will be full 4G and WiFi coverage at all Shanghai Metro stations as soon as the middle of this year, Shanghai Daily learned at the political consultative conference yesterday.
With Wi-Fi and 4G services, passengers are able to go online to browse news, send emails or use social networks.
All stations are currently covered by 2G except for lines 12 and 13, which have 3G coverage.
At present, passengers are unable to access the Internet via smartphones in the majority of Shanghai Metro stations, including People Square and Xujiahui, which are high-traffic transfer points.
Universal 4G coverage will be in place by June, after safety tests are conducted to ensure there is no conflict with signals from the control system, said transport officials.
