A MAN was beaten to death early yesterday morning after he and a friend were allegedly attacked by up to seven men following a minor road accident.

Those present in the incident near the junction of Shangnan Road and Yongtai Road in the Pudong New Area are being held for questioning, police said.

The 34-year-old driver, surnamed Fang, had been driving behind his 29-year-old friend, surnamed Yang, shortly after midnight.

Yang was in collision with another car and Fang stopped to help his friend.

Discussions with the other driver, a 44-year-old man surnamed Han, became heated and Han is said to have called six men to back him up.

They arrived around 1am and as tensions rose pushing and shoving ensued, said police.

This soon escalated into a brutal attack on Fang and Yang using fists and sticks, it is claimed.

Fang bore the brunt of the attack and was beaten to death, dying from blood loss, said police.

Yang suffered injuries to his legs.

Investigations are continuing.
