Model worker charged

A MANAGER at a local chemical company has been charged for taking 950,000 yuan (US$152,950) in bribes, the Changning District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
Prosecutors said in February last year, the district’s anti-corruption bureau received a report about possible corruption by senior managers in the company. The 59-year-old suspect, surnamed Yuan, was found to have taken the huge amount of bribes.
Yuan confessed after being taken in by the police. She told police that in 2006, she advised the company to outsource the part of its product-making to a private company in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province. The private firm reportedly gave kickbacks to Yuan and other executives in exchange for the deal.
Yuan is a winner of the city’s model worker award.
