Money crime cases up
THERE was a surge in the number of financial criminal and civil cases Shanghai courts accepted last year, Shanghai Higher People’s Court said yesterday.
Local courts accepted 1,754 financial criminal cases last year with 1,972 people involved. This was up more than 42 percent on 2013.
And the number of civil cases involving finance accepted in 2014 totaled 54,586 — up more than 75 percent on the previous year.
More than 90 percent of the financial crimes were in connection with credit card fraud and 57 percent of civil cases involved bank card disputes.
Officials said that the huge rise in cases was partly down to new areas emerging offering financial crime opportunities.
