Mother and son accused of murdering abusive father
A local woman allegedly stabbed his husband to death with the aid of her son in a fight over trivial matters, a court heard today.
Cai Yiyun, 29, helped pin his father to the ground while his mother stabbed the victim in the belly with a fruit knife at 2am, October 17, 2010, prosecutors said.
Both the woman and her son were charged with murder at the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court today but the court didn't give a verdict.
Zhou Jinhua, 54, claimed that she suffered repeated domestic violence from her abusive husband in their 30 years' marriage.
Cai came to free her who was strangled and slapped by her husband on the ground of their bedroom and grappled with his father, the accused said. Zhou rushed out to the living room and came back with a fruit knife.
"I stabbed him out of fear and anger," she said. "If my son hadn't tried to stop him, I would be the one who had died."
