Name zebra sharks
THE public has been invited to name two newly born zebra sharks in Shanghai Ocean Aquarium, Shanghai Evening News reported today.
The skin pattern of the female sharks - one born in August and the other in July - will undergo change during the National Day holidays.
Young zebra sharks, usually 50D90 cm long, are brown with light vertical stripes. But they lose their stripes as they get older and eventually become lighter with dark spots.
Zebra sharks, Stegostoma fasciatum, are found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific areas.
The naming competition starts this Saturday and ends October 18.
In the meantime the aquarium has created a national flag with fish and starfish in the lobby to celebrate the 60th anniversary of People's Republic of China.
