New elevated road to be built
AN 18-kilmometer elevated road will be built to connect Hongqiao Transport Hub in Minhang District and Songze Avenue in Qingpu District, while also easing traffic on the Huqingping expressway.
According to Shanghai Construction Design Research Institute, which is responsible for the project, the elevated road will start at Caoying Road in Qingpu and end at the toll gate on the G15 expressway, on Songze Avenue.
The road will allow both passenger and freight transport. Part of the elevated road will be designed with a double-decker bridge to serve cyclists and pedestrians.
According to designers, the road will alleviate vehicle congestion in western suburbs and strengthen connectivity between downtown Shanghai and neighboring provinces.
