New points system to check on restaurants
Shanghai will introduce a points system for local eateries next year.
Points will be deducted from restaurants for any violations besides being hit with hefty fines.
Those who lose all the points will be ordered to shut down, the local food safety authority said yesterday.
If all the 12 points are deducted for the first time, the eatery’s main officials will be asked to undergo food safety training for a month. If all the points are deducted for the second time, the eatery must stop operation, said Yan Zuqiang, director of Shanghai Food and Drug Administration and Shanghai Food Safety Office.
The system will cover all the local eateries as the city pushes efforts to boost food safety management and inspection.
Shanghai has nearly 60,000 licensed eateries.
