New rules on ID cards
CHINESE non-residents living and working in Shanghai will from May be allowed to apply for new identity cards at local police stations, saving them the effort of returning home to update their records, the city’s public security bureau said yesterday.
Citizens of Shanghai are likely to be offered the same privilege if they leave to work in other parts of the country, it said. All Chinese people are obliged to update their ID cards every 10 years.
