New steps for dance program
A JOINT Chinese-United States dance program aimed at helping school students develop self-esteem and social skills is to be rolled out at seven more schools in Minhang District.
The program has already been running at 22 schools in the district since 2011.
“Dancing into the Future — I Can Dance,” is a collaboration between Shanghai-based China Welfare Institute Children’s Palace and the United States National Dance Institute.
It is also intended to let Chinese and American children learn about each other’s country and cultures through dancing.
About 600 Shanghai students who took part in the program gave a performance in the City Theatre in Minhang yesterday.
“Dancing is like a magic mirror through which I saw another me, a confident me,” said Wang Ziteng, a student with Pujiang No.1 Middle School, after the performance.
In the past three years, more than 3,000 Shanghai students have been taught dancing by this method. Some 20 went to the US to give performances.
