TOURS offering children the opportunity to go on a sleepover at city aquariums have proved hugely popular, officials said yesterday.

Changfeng Ocean World in Putuo District has increased its night tours to three times a week during the summer vacation to meet the high demand.

Some night experiences at the aquarium were sold out within five minutes after going online, thepaper.cn reported.

The tour is aimed at children aged between 7 and 12 years old, lasts from 6pm to 8am and costs 599 yuan (US$96) per child.

Children can observe new-born seahorses and sleep in the shark tunnel, said officials.

The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium’s night tours have also proved hugely popular.

All 22 night tours in August are fully booked, and much of the rest of the year is booked up too, officials said.
