SEVENTEEN people have been jailed for running online gambling, Huangpu District People's Court heard yesterday. The longest sentence was eight years in prison and the heaviest fine 5 million yuan (US$814,000). The gang opened online casinos and offered online gambling from July 2011 to last July. Wagers seized from one gang member included 2.06 million yuan, plus small sums in US dollars, Hong Kong dollars and euros.
