The owner of an online store that illegally sold imported eye drops was detained by police.
The shop had been selling eye drops of brands like “Rohto” and “Santen”, which were imported from Japan. It had a total sales volume of over 500,000 yuan (US$81,700), according to Changning District police, who found the online shop’s storehouse in Minhang District earlier this month.
According to regulations, import of products, which have medicinal purposes, without approval is illegal.
The shop owner, surnamed Wu, insisted that she had no idea that she was breaking the law when questioned by police. Wu said she would ask her friends in Japan to bring the eye drops and collyrium products.
Police confiscated 2,600 bottles of eye drops with a total value of 100,000 yuan.
