Owner gets back bag of cash, bank card left on public bus

THE owner of a bag containing lots of cash and a bank card was found, and it turned out the man simply fell asleep and forgot the bag on a public bus.

The Anhui Province native, surnamed Cai, picked up his belongings from the Shanghai Bashi No. 2 Co this morning. He had left a plastic bag on a No. 180 bus on Tuesday evening. It contained 7,700 yuan (US$1,235) in cash, a bank card and three bank books with deposits totaling more than 218,000 yuan.

The forgetful passenger realized the loss on Wednesday, and went to the bus company in the evening. But he wasn't able to claim the bag because he lacked an identity certificate.

Cai went to the company again with his identity card on Thursday morning and managed to get back his bag, which also contained a pair of trousers and a torch.

“I didn't expect to get the cash back, so I'm very grateful to the conductor," said Cai, who plans to order a pennant for the bus company.

The bus company said it will also award the bus conductor, who found the bag during a routine check when the bus reached its terminus at Shanghai South Railway Station at 9pm Tuesday.

In another incident, a bag containing a laptop computer and 3,885 yuan in cash was left on a No. 763 bus on Wednesday evening. The owner quickly realized and managed to get the bag back after contacting the bus company.
