Owner liable in boy's mishap

A RESTAURANT owner has been ordered to pay 24,000 yuan (US$3,500) in compensation to an eight-year-old boy whose four fingers were cut by a meat grinder, Pudong New Area People's Court said yesterday.

The boy surnamed Xie always went with his mother who works in the restaurant because nobody could look after him at home. The court ruled the owner should bear part of the liability because he didn't stop the boy from coming into the workshop.
