Pair photographed naked man

TWO women were sent to prison yesterday for trying to extort 250,000 yuan (US$37,651) from a man after photographing him while he was drunk and naked.

The pair also stripped naked and took turns posing with the man while the other took photographs.

Both defendants pled guilty at a hearing held by the Putuo District People's Court.

Ma Li, from Anhui Province, was sentenced to four years and five months, while the other woman, surnamed Wu, a Yunnan Province native, received a sentence of two years, as she was a minor at the time of the crime.

The victim, surnamed Geng, an employee of a foreign company on a high salary, paid the women 90,000 yuan when they threatened to send the nude pictures to his wife and company.

But Geng was then blackmailed to pay another 160,000 yuan to Ma. He agreed, but Geng and Ma began quarrelling in a bank. Police were called and Ma was arrested.

Ma, 26, told the court that she sent a mobile phone message to Geng by mistake in April. The message said: "I miss you so much." Geng asked to meet Ma and she agreed.

They began a sexual relationship and Geng offered Ma 60,000 yuan for expenses. "I felt it was so easy to get money and he looked quite rich," Ma, who is married, told police.

In May, Ma was found to have a brain tumor and required surgery. She asked for 100,000 yuan from Geng, who agreed but then backtracked.

She then hatched a plan with her friend Wu to extort cash from Geng through taking compromising photographs, the court heard.

On May 31, the women and Geng met in a karaoke bar on Zhenguang Road. Wu put a sleeping drug in Geng's drink. They took him to Wu's home and continued plying him with alcohol.

When Geng was drunk, the defendants stripped him and took off their own clothes. They posed for pictures of each other hugging Geng on the bed, the court heard.

Ma sent a naked photo to the victim's mobile phone on June 2, demanding 100,000 yuan. Geng, afraid of being exposed, paid 90,000 yuan. The two women shared the money equally.

Since the money wasn't enough for the surgery, Ma sent another naked photo to Geng a few days later and asked for 160,000 yuan.

Geng planned to pay the money after Ma signed an agreement promising not to blackmail him any more.

However, Ma was caught after quarrelling with Geng in the bank.

Wu was subsequently arrested.
